Darn I miss Tom and Ray of CarTalk…

I think that the show some how carries on through the magic if reruns, but it is just not the same work people talking about 30 year old cars….

But that is not really the point of this post. This post is really about my visit to the doctors office the other day.

I watched in amazement as my mother’s primary care physician clicked through after screen and screen and pull down menu after pull down menu….

Eventually, I couldn’t help myself any longer and I asked if he went through med school and residency to click through computer screens. While he was quite adept at navigating the computer, he admitted that his new focus on data entry was all about making sure that nothing billable slips through the cracks.

On one hand, I appreciate that so much data is being captured, but on the other hand I am not entirely positive that is the best use of the doctor’s specialized training.

I don’t know that there is a better way to capture that information, especially in the age of Covid-19, but from the patient perspective I don’t think that a lot of value is being added.
