There is an old saying that I remember from the early days of the Internet about how information just wants to be free. This was the counter argument to anyone that was trying to figure how to monetize the Internet.

The reality is that information does not have any wants or desires. Information has some peculiar rules that don’t necessarily apply to other types of matter. The most interesting of these properties is that the same information can be in more than one place at one time. I am sure there must be other things that can do that, but that isn’t the point of this post.

Information is about as neutral as you can get. It really has no feelings or meaning. Seriously, it is just data. People put feelings and emotions around data. And even people that want the data to provide the answers are putting their own feelings and emotion around data.

It is amazing what those crazy human biases will do to put little supposedly neutral information.
